The AA currently lists major servicing from £227 while Halfords lists it from £289.99. They are different provider products with different pricing models and possibly different checklists, not competing estimates of one universal job.
The AA lists a pollen-filter change, brake-fluid condition check and a fuel-filter change for diesel engines within its major service. Halfords describes its major service as a more extensive 24,000-mile inspection and says cabin filter and brake fluid are included in its major-service-and-MOT product.
Some cars need spark plugs, gearbox fluid, coolant, timing components or other time/mileage items at specific intervals. Those can sit outside a generic major-service package, so check the service schedule before assuming everything due is included.
