Car service cost in the UK

Current UK car service prices from major providers, including interim, full and major service starting prices plus the latest RAC full-service quote average.

Pricing checked 10 August 2026

There is no single UK car-service price. The service level, vehicle, engine, oil specification, location and extra scheduled items all matter. The figures below deliberately separate provider starting prices from market quote averages so they are not mistaken for the same thing.

RAC full-service average

£298.60 average quote

RAC

RAC mobile mechanic full-service quotes collected from 1 September to 30 November 2025. RAC says the quotes include parts, labour and VAT for a standard service and are indicative rather than paid invoices.

What is a realistic starting point?

The AA currently publishes starting prices of £146 for an interim service, £187 for a full service and £227 for a major service. Those are lower-end observed prices rather than a promise that every car can be serviced for that amount.

Why is the RAC average higher?

RAC's £298.60 figure is an average full-service quote, not a minimum price. A starting price and an average answer different questions, so AutoAid shows both rather than turning them into a false range.

What should you compare in a quote?

Check exactly which filters and fluids are included, whether VAT is included, whether the service follows the manufacturer's schedule and whether additional maintenance such as brake fluid, spark plugs or a fuel filter is being charged separately.

Got a service quote already?

AutoAid can sense-check the quoted labour, service wording and any additional repair items. Use your actual garage quote rather than treating a national starting price as a target every garage must match.

Service prices change and depend on the exact vehicle, location, provider and work due. AutoAid records the source and date checked, distinguishes starting prices from averages, and does not present these figures as a garage quotation.
